Akwesasne golfer Victoria Thompson turns Pro

Enters the LPGA Futures Tour and Embarks on a Lifelong Dream

Golfer Victoria Thompson is taking the first steps to reach her goal of playing in the LPGA. Thompson recently turned professional and has joined the Sun Coast Tour and LPGA Futures Tour.

The 23 year old Akwesasne native currently resides in Orlando, Florida. For the past two years, she has received instruction and guidance from her coach, Charlotta Sorenstam (Director of Golf Operations at the Annika Academy). Her goal is to become a successful golfer on the LPGA tour. “My decision to turn pro has always been one of my goals since I started playing golf.”

She will play in numerous Sun Coast Tour events, will try to qualify for the U.S. Women’s Open Championship, and she will also play in a select number of Canadian Women’s Tour events. She is hoping to turn her experiences on the Sun Coast Tour and LPGA Futures Tour into a ticket on to the LPGA Tour.

Thompson has been making a name for herself adding numerous awards and club championships to her resume. Her greatest playing achievements include a 2008 and 2009 Ottawa Citizen Amateur Golf Championship, where, in 2009, she shot her career best round of 68. Thompson also won a gold medal at the 2008 Native American Indigenous Games.

Thompson credits her parents for helping her reach this milestone in her career. “I would like to thank my parents for their overwhelming support throughout the years. I would not be where I am today without their help.”

“It’s always been my dream to someday play amongst the professionals of the LPGA Tour. I know that one day I will make my dream a reality.”

Thompson plays her first tournament as a professional on April 5, when she will play at Falcons Fire Golf Course, part of the Sun Coast Tour.
