A Voice from the Eastern Door
On March 6, a second annual girls hockey tournament was held in memory of Katsitsientha Barnes. Many people remember this young lady as a quiet, caring, gentle and sometimes silly with friends type of girl. Her love for horses and hockey were so evident and being with her family and her friends were her best times. She will always be remembered by so many people. Her life was way too short and was taken away on August 18, 2009.. For those who haven’t experienced the death of a close one, one cannot comprehend the loneliness it causes.
As Mrs. Charity Sprankle, former teacher, spoke of Katsitsientha, you could almost feel Katsitsientha’s presence around everyone. It was a very good day for this tournament and hope to have many more tournaments as years go by. It is such a great tribute to her memory to have these tournaments annually and the family would like to say thank you to so many. To all the players and spectators, you will always be remembered. Last year was the first year for the tournament and it included North Franklin, Alex Bay, Massena, and Thousand Islands. North Franklin did win the championship last year. This year, North Franklin, Wolfclan and Malone came and entered. Next year, the family would like to have more teams if possible and to have it over two days.
