MASSENA – Mr. Raymond A. Thompson, age 69, of 220 Fregoe Road, passed away Monday afternoon, March 7, 2011 at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice.
Ray was born March 14, 1941 on Cornwall Island, the son of the late Tobias and Anna Peters Thompson. He attended schools on Cornwall Island and in Montreal.
As an ironworker with Local 401 in Philadelphia for over 50 years, Ray worked throughout the country, including the building of the International Bridge in Cornwall. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #1702, Massena and of the Partridge Run Country Club in Canton. He truly loved to golf and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. During the 80’s, Ray owned the Akwesasne Warriors Lacrosse team, who were recently inducted in the Lacrosse Hall of Fame. He loved to watch local lacrosse and was an avid New York Yankees and Philadelphia Eagles fan. Ray will be best remembered for his wittiness and his great sense of humor.
Ray is survived by his wife, Karen M .; 6 children, Leisha Connors-Bauer and her husband, Bruce of Boulder, CO, Debbie Francis of Akwesasne, Tammy Francis and her husband, Scott, of Wenonah, NJ, Gregg Seamen and his wife, Christen of Fort Drum, Erin McKeever of Massena, and Alexis Thompson at home.
He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren, Jordan, Jeremy, Joshua, Jonathan, Collin, Mia, Tawny, and Tara Francis, Kiley, Dylan, and Adriana Seamen, and Brendan Bauer; 8 great grandchildren; two sisters, Eleanor Thompson and Inez Seymour of Akwesasne, Ontario; an uncle, Jack Leaf of Akwesasne; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, his former wife, Patricia Thompson, a brother, Leonard Thompson in 1963 and a sister, Gladys Fetter in 2007.
Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, Saturday and Sunday 2-4 and 6-9 PM where a native prayer service will be held each evening at 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday 12:00 PM at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Donald J. Manfred, celebrating.
