5th Annual Memorial Wayne Castor Fan Support Award

Wednesday night’s boys varsity hockey game between Alexandria Bay and Salmon River included a special demonstration in honor of the late Wayne Castor. After the first period of the game a presentation was made by Ken Kane of Kahnawake. The family of the late Wayne Castor was on hand to award a fan who has contributed as a supporter of the SRC hockey program.

Tim “Gumper” Ghostlaw received the award in front of many spectators. He is most remembered for founding the “Dog Pound” at the Salmon River Arena when the Shamrocks were playing.

The origin of this award came from the family of the late Kerry Kane, brother of Ken. From there the Kane family wanted to sponsor this award along with Bill Plante.

The sons of Kenny - Jon and Logan - had close ties to the family of Wayne and Elaine during their stay in Ahkwesahsne throughout their high school days.  This was a way to honor Wayne’s memory with this annual award. Wayne’s son Kevin was a hockey player during the same time as the Kane brothers.
