FORT COVINGTON - Roger J. Lauzon, age 63 of 824 County Route 1, Fort Covington, passed away on Monday, January 10, 2011 at the St. Regis Nursing Home, where he had been a patient since 2009.
Roger was born on June 11, 1947 in Malone, the son of the late Joseph and Hazel Martin Lauzon. He graduated from Salmon River Central School in 1966 where he was a proud student and supporter of the school.
After graduation Roger worked for the family farm and at the local Sunoco station in Fort Covington. Mr. Lauzon moved to Rochester and went to work for General Electric. In April of 1970, Roger started working at General Motors in Massena and retired from GM with 34 years of dedicated services in 2004.
Mr. Lauzon’s passion and hobby was being involved in North Franklin Sports for 25 years, having coached and refereed many youth players in North Franklin Minor Hockey and little league.
In his free time, Roger enjoyed walking, playing golf, snowmobiling, decorating his house for Christmas, playing baseball for the Ft. Covington Travelers and summer softball leagues but most importantly he cherished the time he spent with his kids and grandchildren.
He loved the New York Yankees and the Montreal Canadiens and one of his high points in life was being at the championship game in 1993 when the Montreal Canadiens won the Stanley Cup.
Roger was united in marriage to Trudy Adams on Oct. 24, 1970 in St. Mary’s Church, Fort Covington with the Rev. Robillard officiating.
Besides his wife Trudy, he is survived by his children, Tricia Smiddy of Fort Covington, Gerald and Jennifer Lauzon of Raymondville, Richie Lauzon of Hogansburg, and Jordan Lauzon and companion Hailey Sunday of Fort Covington; grandchildren, Tyler and Logan Smiddy, and Lexie Adams, all of Fort Covington, Jude, Sophie and Dylan Lauzon, all of Raymondville.
Mr. Lauzon is also survived by 13 siblings, Donald and Martha Lauzon of North Tonawanda, Philip and Sylvia Lauzon of Fort Covington, Joseph and Eloise Massaro of Fort Covington, Margaret of Greenfield, Maine, Robert and Anne Lauzon of St. Regis Falls, Janet and John Malark of Burke, Helen and Phillip Burl of Fort Covington, Carl and Mona Lauzon of Fort Covington, Harold and Emily Lauzon of Bombay, Michael and Kathleen of Fort Covington, Paul and Darlene of Fort Covington, Rita Lauzon and Jim Yeddo of Chateaugay, Ann Lauzon of Schenectady and Sandra Lauzon of Fort Covington; and several nieces and nephews.
Also surviving are his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Larry Leaf and companion Ann Philips, Sally Ann Adams, Roy and Joellene Adams, Angus and Veronica Adams, all of Snye, Quebec, Karen and Jake Adams, and Edith McDonald, both of Hogansburg, Louie Lazore of Snye, Craig and Vicky Jock of Fort Covington, and Abram Gray of Hogansburg.
Roger was predeceased by his sister, Theresa Almond; and brothers, Gerald and Ronald Lauzon. Roger was also predeceased by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Morris Adams, Gertrude Gray, Richard and Judy David, and Phyllis Lazore.
Friends are invited to call St. Mary’s Church, Fort Covington on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011 from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be held there on Friday, Jan. 14, 2010 at noon with the Rev. Martin Cline and the Rev. Christopher Lauzon officiating. Interment will take place in the spring at the parish cemetery.
