A Voice from the Eastern Door
AKWESASNE MOHAWK TERRITORY – The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne announced that a new insurance provider is now available for Akwesasne residents. The insurance protection provided by Membertou Insurance Brokers and John Warner Insurance will be of particular interest for homeowners seeking optional coverage in the northern districts of Akwesasne.
In the past, community members in Kanatakon and Tsi Snihne have had difficult time obtaining affordable homeowners insurance or could not get insurance at all. To address this problem, Membertou Insurance has partnered with John Warner Insurance in Cornwall to provide coverage that meets the unique insurance needs of Akwesasne residents; including homeowners, automobiles and business.
The new insurance provider will give Akwesasne residents an added choice on who they want to have insurance with—an option that many community members did not have in the past. Factoring into that choice is a desire to get the best insurance products and services created specifically to address the needs of Aboriginal communities. The long-term objective is to have an Akwesasronon trained and licensed to provide insurance services for the future.
Membertou Insurance is an Aboriginal-owned and controlled insurance broker and the only New Sky affiliate operating in Atlantic Canada. As a New Sky affiliate, Membertou Insurance is part of an insurance network comprised of First Nation-controlled insurance brokers and partners that extend from coast to coast. The partnership with John Warner Insurance will bring that insurance network to the community of Akwesasne.
A focus group meeting will be held in the coming weeks to help community members learn more about optional insurance coverage available from John Warner Insurance and Membertou Insurance Brokers.
