Akwesasne Soaring Eagles volleyball club is off to a great season as both 16U & 13U high performance had a pretty successful time at their first Provincial zone D tournaments. Both teams have been consistently participating at practices every Monday and Wednesdays. They are both currently working on technique and strategy skills to improve their participation in the Ontario Volleyball Association tournament circuit. High performance requirements is dry land training, good nutrition, and serious practice to be able to perform against some of the best teams in Ontario, they travel as far as Windsor, Kitchener, Oshawa, Barrie, Ottawa, Pembroke & Toronto. 16U next OVA McGregor Cup tournament is Saturday, January 8th and the 13U team is January 15th.
On another note our Spike developmental program will finish their season with a Spike Jam skills event Monday December 20th at 5:00-7:00 p.m. they will do a christmas shopping game, to where each player will go to each station and demonstrate the skill that this station requires, if they successfully complete the skill they pick a present then they will go onto the next four stations, after
this is done they will play a four team tournament and then eat pizza wings. The Spike program ran for ten weeks and was targeted at children 6-14 year olds learning the skills of volleyball through play in an environment which differed from traditional volleyball competition. This environment was tailored by the key developmental principles from athletes in this age range as identified in Sport Canada’s long term athlete development model.
The Inter-district league has been going on since Wednesday, November 17th and its location are the AMS school, Kanatkon school and Snye Recreation gym, We have four womens team in their division and five coed teams. We have some talented volleyball players out to have a good competitive and recreational time. They will complete their season January 19th and on Saturday January 22nd will be league championships.
Soaring Eagles have a Santa Smash Coed volleyball tournament fundraiser and “So you think you can serve competition” this weekend Saturday December 18th at Kanatkon school, 9:00-12:00 youth are on the court, 12:00 noon is registration for Coed teams who will being their tournament at 12:30.
