A Voice from the Eastern Door
At A’nowara:kowa Arena, there were many spectators on hand to watch our home team face New York in another pro competition. On Friday the Warriors won 6 -4. The latest news was that Akwesasne signed on a new player, Mike Varhaug, 6’8” and 260 lb., a tough one. He was involved in a fight against Joe Pelle as they danced for a while.
Both were quite tough and neither wanted to give in but exhaustion got the both of them and stopped.
On Saturday, the same two teams faced off and again it was a very exciting and fast game even while missing some players for Akwesasne. In the first period three goals were made against goalie Kevin Druce (NY). He was eventually pulled as goalie going into second period. NY came back to tie up the game which produced an extension to the game in overtime and an eventual shootout. So far, this game has been the longest game in the professional league at Cornwall Island. Dagenais scored two goals in that shootout to tie it at two each with NY. The goal tenders were absolutely awesome for both teams. It was Akwesasne’s Deraspe to get the winning goal to end the contest.
Akwesasne after that game is now at 13-3 for the standings.
Come on over and watch this very exciting brand of hockey. Filled with fast action from start to finish, you won’t be sorry. The Warriors have helped out people who have to cross the bridge and pay toll by accepting their toll receipts and at admission returning half of the cost. Continue the great job Angelo Sanserverino (head coach) and Anthony Sarno (Assistant) along with goalie coach Rick Fillion. Also to all who are involved in bringing this pro style hockey to Akwesasne including Basem Awwad. Best wishes for continued success!!
