A Voice from the Eastern Door

“If pigs could fly!”

November 29, 2010

DEAR EDITOR:

“If pigs could fly!”

Well, they have.

I would like to offer my words of praise for the water system supplied, most recently, in the District of Tsi Snaihne.

I am pleased, rather elated, to have good, usable water being piped into my house after having to purchase my drinking water for the past 20 years. No longer do I have to take my whites and brightly-coloured clothes to the laundry mat or worry that the spring runoff will bring mud into the well system and be without water for a couple of weeks.

The crew installing the waterline was very professional. They worked with me to accommodate any concerns I had. They were fast, efficient and friendly.

Thank you goes out, not only to the Lazore Construction Company, but also to the long-term planning by the Department of Technical Services. This MCA Department has the knowledge and expertise to plan, implement and deliver an extensive capital construction initiative and to hire the right people. And, of course, hats off to the political body of MCA (especially the past Snye District Chiefs) who were able to push the envelope to get the job done.

Overall, most well water in Snye area is generally very hard and not potable. In the past, community members would regularly ask a former Grand Chief when the waterline would make its way to Snye. The question was so persistent that it was rumored his response to the question became: “When pigs fly.” At a District meeting, when the Grand Chief gave his response, “When pigs fly,” a stuffed pig was sent flying into the air.

Seriously, now, I do think pigs have learned to fly.

Niawenkowa to you all.

Joyce King
