A Voice from the Eastern Door
Step 1 to Getting Healthy and Losing Weight
There are some pretty big health myths circulating today and there may not be a bigger health myth than, “diets don’t work!” All diets work and all exercise programs work as well. What doesn’t work, in most cases, is the successful transition from someone else telling you what to do…….to you telling yourself what to do.
Most people are great order takers and they often have no problem following the directives laid down by others in regards to a diet clinic/diet book or exercise program etc. Yes, when people lose weight they often put it back on but it’s not because the diet didn’t work. What “didn’t work” was that person’s ability to choose for themselves after the authority figure (the personal trainer, the diet book, the diet clinic) is removed from the picture.
What happened to our ability to choose the options that benefit us the most over the options that bring us our worst lives? For the full answer to that question you may want to call 631.932.4766 to register for my free weight loss and health seminar being held this Sunday Nov 14th at the Best Western Hotel and Conference Center in Cornwall.
As humans our true power lies in the ability to choose or in other words our power comes from our “free will” to choose one option instead of another. That’s what defines our species in comparison to others.
A fish in the ocean can’t decide to have McDonald’s for dinner and a fish can’t decide to open a business that serves processed foods to other fish. As humans we can choose to start an organic restaurant or we can choose to start a fast food restaurant. As humans we can choose to eat processed foods and fed the same life depleted food to our children or we can choose to eat organic food at all our homemade meals.
One choice brings us our worst life and the other choice brings us our best life. Today you see many people, who are already living their worst lives, consistently choosing options that only bring them more of what they don’t want. Why is that? Again, the answers (and how to get out of that trap) are discussed during my free health seminar.
Getting empowered means learning to consistently choose the option, which builds your best life. You need to practice empowerment because you need to make those kinds of important choices with your finances, your relationships and your health as well. If you lack empowerment in one area, you will lack empowerment in all of them. I call this ADD or what I like to refer to as Action Deficit Disorder. In my office ADD signifies the inability to take action on your best life because you’re too busy creating your worst life.
Find a person who is overweight, in financial trouble and in relationship trouble and I will show you someone who lacks the personal power to consistently choose options that will bring them their best life. Before a client starts a diet or exercise routine with me, we need to get them empowered to stick to their action plan, even when I’m not there telling them what to do.
Getting empowered means making the process of “choice” a habit regardless of what anyone else in your immediate environment is saying to you. Empowerment is the first step to getting healthy and losing weight because if you can’t teach yourself to take control of your own life after the diet/exercise program is over, there is little sense starting the diet/exercise routine in the first place. Learn about getting empowered first and worry about the diet or exercise routine second.
Since empowerment is not for sale and is not available anywhere outside your body, you need to cultivate it yourself. Empowerment comes from within and not from others. Some people can’t understand this concept fully unless concrete examples of dis-empowerment and empowerment are given at the same time.
When an empowered person is sick, they instantly look at what they did to cause the illness and they simply reverse the cause to cure the illness. A dis-empowered person runs out of the house and to the doctor/medication (anyone other than themselves) so they can quickly get back to the foods and habits that caused the illness in the first place. An empowered person knows immunity is based on health and self care. A dis-empowered person believes immunity comes in the form of a vaccination. The trend is that empowered people rely mostly on themselves and a dis-empowered person always relies on “others”. Look at what you do when a crisis hits.
Empower yourself today. Just beyond your greatest fears, your best life awaits.
