Akwesasne announces new Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame inductees

The Akwesasne Lacrosse Hall of Fame Committee (ALHOF) is pleased to announce the three inductees to the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame & Museum in St. Catharine’s, Ontario. The 2010 inductees are Ralph “Rufus” Alfred in the Player category, James “Jimmy Flo” McComber in the Builder category, and David “Chuggo” Jacobs in the Player category.

The formal induction ceremony for the three men and other 2010 inductees from other communities will be held on Oct. 16, 2010 at the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame & Museum in St. Catharines, Ontario. The ALHOF selects the players from the Eastern Door communities (Akwesasne, Kahnawake, Kanesatake, Oneida, Onondaga and Tyendinaga) who will be inducted into the OLHOF.

Below are bios on the three Eastern Door inductees:

Ralph Alfred - Rufus

In the category of Player.

From Kahnawake

Ralph played Lacrosse in the 1950’s and 1960’s Junior and Senior Teams and later in the Old Timers League. Ralph loved the game and was a dedicated defenseman. He played on the 1964 Senior Championship Team Caughnawaga Indians and was voted MVP of the game.

James McComber – Jimmy Flo

In the category of Builder.

From Kahnawake

Jimmy started playing Lacrosse in 1945 until the early 2000’s. Jimmy loved the game and proved it even more in the later years as an owner, coach and manager. Jimmy was a very devoted, dedicated, life-time contributing individual, who willingly shared his knowledge and expertise for the game of Tewa’ara:ton (Lacrosse). He also made and repaired the wooden sticks of old. Jimmy is known for keeping the game of lacrosse alive in his home community of Kahnawake.

David Jacobs – Chuggo

In the category of Player.

From Akwesasne

David was a dedicated goal tender in the 1960-1980 era of minor, junior and senior lacrosse. David was an outstanding athlete and top goalie for all his years in lacrosse. He played on Championship Teams in Akwesasne throughout the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.

St. Regis Braves -Best Goalie MVP- Junior Lacrosse.

Akwesasne Warriors – Top Goalie MVP – Senior Lacrosse. (1977, 1978, 1979, 1980)

Akwesasne Warriors – Best Goalie – Old Sticks.
