Funeral Services for Nelson E. Benedict, age 61, of Middlebury Avenue were held on Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at the Phillips Memorial Home, with Rev Joel Grigg officiating, Rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church. Mr. Benedict passed away Saturday, September 18, 2010 at the Massena Memorial Hospital. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Nelson is survived by his wife Sharleen, two daughters: Mrs. Steven (Juanita) Warnock of Massena and Mrs. Robert (Crystal) Tracy of Malone, by seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Also survived by a brother and two sisters: Keith of Massena, Mrs. Bernard (Brenda) Lanning and Charlotte Ward both of Norfolk, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Gary and two great grandchildren, Jordon Gage Warnock Burnett and Jordon James Benedict Love, by three brothers and three sister; Wendell Ward, Kevin Benedict, Wendell Fetterly, Patricia Brothers, Wanita Guyette and Karen McComber. Nelson was born July 21, 1949, son of Carl and Aletha (Fetterly) Benedict. He graduated from Massena High School and served in the US Marine Corps during the Viet Nam conflict. He married the former Joanne White who predeceased him. Nelson married Sharleen Hill October 23, 1976 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Massena. He was employed with ALCOA as a Supply Technician retiring several years ago. He was a member of the American Legion Post #79, the AmVets Post #4 and the Marine Corps League. He enjoyed camping at Coles Creek and Lake Meacham, traveling in his car and listening to music along with the company of his cats.

Memorials may be made in his memory to the American Heart Assoc. or the American Cancer Society.
