A Voice from the Eastern Door

30th Cornwall Terry Fox Run another record breaking year!

PARTICIPANTS: 374 (last year 265)

MONEY RAISED: $22,040 (last year $15,535)

It is with great pride that Josee Sauve announces yet another astonishingly successful Cornwall Terry Fox Run. For the 5th year in a row, the Run has increased in both participation and in dollars raised!

We had several teams today running together in memory of someone they lost to cancer. Teams that come out like this are doing such a wonderful thing for cancer research. Even though there were a lot of tearful memories, those teams raising that money are the reason that another family will someday celebrate their loved one’s victory over cancer.

The Canadian Forces School of Aerospace came out again bringing even more members than last year and beating their 2009 goal! They joined us in 2008 with 4 participants and were 18 in 2009, and in 2010 had a team of almost 40 participants! We also had a few local companies that sponsored one of their employees to come out. All in all it was a day filled with laughter, hugs and a few tears as we thought of those we lost while staying focused on the positives of the event.

Organizer Josee would like to thank the wonderful volunteers and every single participant that made this year’s Cornwall Terry Fox Run beat all records. “I would like to particularly thank my family & friends who have all shown tremendous support for my decision to organize the Run for the 5th year in a row. They have spent every Run Day by my side in the trenches and I could not have done it without them” .

A great big KUDOS also goes out to all the local businesses in Cornwall who donated items for the Run too. Because all money raised goes to cancer research, it means that items for the run cannot be bought, they must be donated and of course, Cornwall businesses rose to the occasion.

And finally, a big CHEERS to the staff at the Complex for doing such a great job!
