The St. Regis Mohawk Health Services Alcoholism/Chemical Dependency Prevention Program (ACDP) has once again finished a successful summer program for children ages 7 and older.
This year we held our program at the Kateri Hall. Some activities the children were able to experience were, communication skill games, team building games, pottery, scrapbooking, t-shirt and bag making/decorating, self esteem masks, wood models, relay races, minute to win it games, hat decorating and friendship bracelets, diversity acceptance activities, and of course days spent at the beach and movies. Every Wednesday was our trip day. The first Wednesday we kept it local and went to the beach due the beautiful weather we had. The following Wednesday we took a ride to Lake Placid where the kids were taken on a boat and toured Lake Placid followed by some Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream of course. The next Wednesday we went to Ausable Chasm for the day where the kids took a hike around the Chasm and then hopped on some tubes and floated down the Chasm. On our last Wednesday, was our big trip to the Abraska Adventures in Riguad Quebec to do some zip lining. This trip is by far the group’s favorite activity. Our program ended on July 29th where we joined a Beach Day celebration with Akwesasne Child and Family Services Summer Program and the JOM Summer Program. This Beach Day Celebration was put on by the Akwesasne Coalition for Community Empowerment. The A/CDP Prevention would like to take this opportunity to thank the following programs and people: the Salmon River Central School Feeding Program for providing lunches, Kateri Hall for allowing us to hold our summer program there, Nathan Thompson from the Let’s Get Healthy Program, Cynthia Lord from the Akwesasne Mohawk Police, Partridge House, and the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe Family Support; with the help of them our 2010 summer program was a great success.
