A Voice from the Eastern Door
Thank you,
Here are the winners of the July 4, 2010 drawing for Tekahero:ken Herne, who is now traveling with the People to People Student Ambassador Program. The 54 children and councilors are from New Hampshire, Vermont and NY State areas.
They departed from Montreal airport July 8 and arrived in Paris on Friday morning. The group has had a busy program set out for them. Visiting the Eiffel tower, and the Louvre, to name a few. The kids christened him the Water God because he did a little dance and it started to rain. They then traveled to Switzerland for a one-day trip. Then on to Germany, where he is having a home-stay with a family. He has been attending school in Germany with the host family and then returns home, where they have numerous activities planned for him.
Friday, July 16, after school the family is having a birthday party for him. He turned 17 years old in Germany and is having a great time. He says the food is out of this world. He presented a beautiful sweetgrass basket, hand made by Cecelia Jock and sweetgrass dream catchers, handmade by his sister and mom. Unknown to him at the time, one of the children in the home was having bad drams, so he was pleased to know that he was able to help in some way. Saturday, July 17th they will head out to Austria for a few days and then the last 7 days he will spend in Italy and return to Montréal July 26.
There are not enough words to express our gratitude, for the generosity and words of encouragement to all Akwesasron:non who were involved in making this trip a reality.
The winners of the community wide raffle were:
$1,000 US Megan Conners
$500 US Anna Jacobs
