Restaurant Review: The Maple Room Steakhouse

Indian Time learned firsthand last week that the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino’s new Maple Room Steakhouse is a fine dining experience unique to the North Country. The eatery opened in May in what was formerly the Sticks Bar’s fine dining room. (Sticks Sports Bar is still open as well in it’s main location.)

We were greeted by a friendly, smiling hostess as well as a gracious piano player who helped to set the relaxing, quiet mood of The Maple Room. Dimly lit with trendy but classy décor, the restaurant caters to a sophisticated, mature crowd without making the more casually dressed patrons from the gaming floor feel out of place when they too want a first-rate impromptu meal.

“To die for” appetizers at The Maple Room include the spinach artichoke dip which is served with rectangular strips of bread stacked in a square around the bowl of dip. Both will meet and surpass the expectations of spinach artichoke dip connoisseurs. Other appetizer items include jumbo shrimp cocktail, fried calamari (not for diners who only prefer the rings, as many tentacles are served), brushetta served with delicious hummus, crab cakes and lobster bisque.

The Maple Room will soon be well-known for their salads. Six salads as well as the house side salads are served with fresh romaine and all are overflowing on large plates. Few guests will be able to finish the entire course. Indian Time reviewers enjoyed the Greek Salad and house salad without complaint. Past patrons have also recommended the Tomato and Mozzarella Salad.

The Maple Room’s side dishes set the restaurant apart from most in the northern New York area. Asparagus served with hollandaise is mouth-watering and cooked to the perfect level of crispness that can’t be imitated at home. Other sides include sautéed mushrooms and onions, creamed spinach, steamed broccoli with hollandaise and caramelized onions.

The eatery has several seafood, pasta, and steak selections and all are served in large portion sizes – so make sure to leave room after the appetizers, side dishes and enormous salads.

Indian Time recommends the Porterhouse Steak, which was cooked just as requested to a perfect medium well. The Chicken Pasta Primavera was picture perfect with fresh vegetables and flavor to match. Just a few of the other main course selections are lobster tail, grilled tuna, filet mignon, veal and chicken varieties, mushroom ravioli and vodka chicken riggies.

Finally, while it would be nearly impossible for anyone to be hungry after his or her first four Maple Room courses, dessert cannot be missed. Take it to go if you must but please try the chocolate or caramel cheesecake for the best you’ve ever had.

The Maple Room provided a flawless experience for the Indian Time food critics, which couldn’t have happened without professional, polite, and 5-star worthy service provided by the waiter. In fact all of the eatery’s staff appeared well trained, experienced, polite and comfortable, a perfect garnish to what the restaurant already provides.
