A Voice from the Eastern Door

 Coyote sightings

Cornwall, Ont. – The Cornwall Community Police Service would like to advise the citizens of Cornwall regarding recent sightings of coyotes within the city limits.  The service is concerned about your personal safety and that of your children and family pets.

Coyotes are generally not considered to be a threat to humans.  Residents are reminded that all wild animals are unpredictable by nature, and it is strongly advised to exercise caution and good judgment when encountering any wildlife.  We are reminding residents to not approach or feed coyotes and to educate children to not harass any wild animals or unfamiliar domestic pets.

Residents are further reminded that allowing pets to roam at large increases their risk of injury.

Properly stored and maintained garbage containers will help prevent coyotes from becoming a nuisance as well.

If you encounter a coyote and there is a public safety concern, please contact the service by dialing (613) 932-2110.
