Cornwall Island Redmen took on the Snake Island Muskies at Anowarakowa Arena (Turtle Dome) for the first time this season on May 15 with an 8:30pm start time. Both teams played pretty even in periods one and two and were neck and neck throughout period three ending with a tie at 10-10 throwing the game into over-time. But, the Muskies were no match for the Redmen who scored 2 final goals in over-time winning with a final score of 12-10.
The Muskies took charge scoring the first and second goals of the game. The Redmen quickly tied it up at 2-2 at 10:20 but they just could not advance. Muskies ended the period in the lead 2-4.
The Muskies were not so lucky in the second period however. Even with the Redmen down two players at 7:19 giving the Muskies the advantage and scoring 2 consecutive goals the Redmen came back with a vengeance and ended the period on top with a score of 7-6.
It was an intense third period with consistently close scores. The Muskies tied the game at 7-7 at 17:52 and took a lead over the Redmen. The Redmen then came back to tie the game three more times at 15:35, 7:18 and 2:01 eventually ending the third period at a stalemate with a score of 10-10 throwing the game into over-time.
Redmen player Trevin Thompson 18 assisted by Andrew Lazore 14 scored 11-10 at 8:09 over-time followed by the final goal by Andrew Lazore 14 assisted by Brandon Swamp 17 and Jerome Thompson 22 at 3:13 for the final winning score of 12-10.
The Redmen have kept the excitement up by winning against the Akwesasne Thunderbirds on May 22 at 8:00pm at Anowarakowa Arena (Turtle Dome) with a close final score of 13-12. These wins put the Redmen record at 5-1. They are scheduled to play the Akwesasne Thunderbirds again on May 26 at Massena Arena 8:00pm start time.
