A Voice from the Eastern Door

Cinco de Mayo was celebrated this May 5th at the Akwesasne Boys & Girls Club! Fun was had throughout the building. They started off with chicken quesadillas, and ended with a piñata.
The club members were told about the significance of the Cinco de Mayo for the Mexican people, and even learned some Spanish while playing a Cinco de Mayo themed BINGO. In the gym area they played different variations of the Mexican Hat Dance! They enjoyed some chips & salsa while learning about the ingredients and how to make guacamole, some of them trying an avocado for the first time!
It was delightful to be learning what the club members already knew about the day. The highlight was the 2 piñatas! Everybody got a swing at it, but more children were excited for the pieces of the piñata than they were to take off with candy!
