Kids helping kids

The Kids Helping Kids second annual boot hockey tournament at the Akwesasne Boys and Girls Club was a huge success. We’d like to take this time to thank the sponsors involved; Swamps Performance, Akwesasne Area Management Board, Intensive Preventive Program, Brass Horse Grille and some community members who wish to remain anonymous.

This year’s recipient is the family of Joe Cross. He has been diagnosed with a brain tumor and his family has had to travel back and forth to Syracuse where he undergoes chemo therapy. The money raised will go towards the family travel expenses. This year we had four teams that participated in a round robin tournament with the top two teams playing for the annual boot hockey trophy and a $500 first place prize which was sponsored by the Akwesasne Area Management Board.

Having the tournament open to all age groups gave the fans a chance to see some very interesting match ups and some awesome games. For our club members it was a chance for them to play against players from the Salmon River varsity hockey team. The total amount raised was $ 2520.00 for Joe Cross and his family.
