•• The Mohawk Nation Council sent “runners” to Onondaga on Wednesday, February 10 to request a Grand Council meeting. The “runners” took the wampum, which is the appropriate method for requesting a Grand Council meeting. The Mohawk nation put forth three items: the external relations committee, the ID cards and the cigarette tax issue.

The Onondaga council then discuss the request, set the date(s) for a Grand Council , agree with the agenda items and add to the agenda if so desired.

Next, the Onondaga Council select “runners” to carry the message to the Haudenosaunee Councils announcing the Grand Council date(s), and the agenda items.

The Grand council will be meeting as soon as the dates have been confirmed.

•• As reported in a previous Haudenosaunee news, the Confederacy nations are involved in a massive greenhouse project and it’s beginning to move forward. This past weekend the Swedish scientists met with the Onondaga leadership to discuss the project and find a location for the greenhouse.

The greenhouse project will benefit all the Six Nations providing produce and in the future their own greenhouse. Also produce will be produced in large quantities so it can also be sold to non-native communities and stores.

•• The Haudenosaunee Peace and Trade met last week, February 10 and there was a heavy agenda.

Tax issue – review the issue by the Councils and then presenting to the Governor.

I.D. Cards – report given to the representatives present by Carl Hill. Things are moving forward.

Stand Committee on Repatriation: Report given by Chairperson. Attended conference in Arizona.

H.E.T.F.: Environmental report of activities and events in the Haudenosaunee nations.

Meeting with Repertoire James Anya in Arizona to discuss the CBSA/Mohawk problem. Mr. Anya will be sending a letter to Canada. Anya does work for the Indigenous Peoples to the United Nations.

•• Haudenosaunee Peace and Trade meets on Friday, the 19th to discuss the cigarette tax situation and I.D. cards.
