Fort Covington - It was a special night for the Salmon River Shamrocks’ Girls Basketball Team. Junior Abby Kelly broke the SRC All-Time Points Record that was previously set at 1140 points.
Kelly started off the 2012-13 season with 828 points. In the first game against Colton-Pierrepont she tallied a team-high 25 points. She went on to contribute 15 points in a loss against Canton.
Kelly rebounded positively from the loss to Canton and put up a convincing game-high 32 points to lead the Shamrocks over Gouverneur 56-41. She helped keep the Shamrock’s winning streak going while chipping in 11 points against Malone, throwing down 24 points against IHC, supplying 17 points against Harrisville and pitching in 38 points against Potsdam.
On January 4th, Abby Kelly provided 28 points in a bittersweet loss to Ogdensburg, in which she also passed the 1,000 all-time points mark and joined the elite group of SRC girls basketball players to pass such a milestone.
Kelly bounced back 3 days later to become a pivotal player in a win against the highly favored Massena Lady Red Raiders in which she put in 23 points for the Shamrocks’ offense. The Shamrocks’ played the Chateaugay Bulldogs two days later where Kelly contributed 21 points to boost the Shamrocks to a 52-43 win.
On January 10th, the Shamrocks played the Canton Golden Bears with Kelly contributing 14 points, but the Shamrocks fell short with the final being 54-45.
Kelly didn’t lose her poise though, she just thought about the next game against Gouverneur which was reflected when she threw in 19 points for the Shamrocks’ offense in the 70-37 win.
Abby once again became a strong pivotal player, but this time in a match-up against the Franklin Academy Huskies. With her strong defensive sense and keen offensive plays, she contributed 13 points to the Shamrocks’ offensive, which in the end combined for a 45-42 win.
On January 29th, Kelly surpassed another milestone, this one held by her mother, Jocelyn Furnia-Kelly. Abby Kelly passed her mother’s SRC All-Time Points Record of 1140, in a game where Abby contributed 44 points in the Shamrocks’ offense to finish the game with her all-time points amounting to1152 points.
It has been quite a successful winter sports season for Abby Kelly in which she surpassed both the 1,000 Point Mark and the All-Time Points Record.
