A Voice from the Eastern Door

Letter to all Akwesasne members

I read the guest editorial from the chiefs in this past week’s Indian Time ( vol. 28#2), In the letter, the argument was for the Sullivan county casino’s referendum vote on January 30, 2010. For those of us who did not keep up with the associations of the investors (Malaysians) to Tribal Council. The Malaysian investors are to front the cost of this casino; I think it is important to know that the Malaysian investors are getting smarter (slier). Realizing the near begging state, the Native Americans are being with having casinos and that the Malaysians are applying higher interest rates to be the profiteers (is this legacy what we want for our next generations?) in all these Indian Casinos. Chiefs did not mention that the interest rate for the Seneca Buffalo casino is 29.9% for their loan agreement. The Foxwoods interests are 9.9% for their loan agreement and as you know the Foxwoods casino was the earlier casino that the Malaysians invested with. Both of these aforementioned casinos are in a crisis with their loans affecting the per-capita payments to their members. This letter sounded most convincing but these small (oops BIG) details were left out along with the ECONOMY OF TODAY was another ignored aspect for this off reservation casino for the sake of the St Regis Mohawk Tribe. We must be appreciative the opportunity that Tribal Council is allowing us this referendum and we should just apply our NO votes, we cannot ignore this important vote. Research the situation on the internet with Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun, and the Seneca Casino in Buffalo and please come out and vote or the big ($) fellows will win and we will be forever owing the Malaysians (Lim family) without per-capita payments with two casino.
