A Voice from the Eastern Door

Taking a closer look at the ‘Footsteps to Wellness’

Holistic healing and alternative medicines have been used for centuries to help treat just about everything from arthritis to the flu. Herbologist and Certified Natural Health Practitioner Louise Ingle is convinced holistic healing can help anybody, which is why she opened “Footsteps to Wellness,” a wellness clinic right here in Akwesasne.

Ingle has 20 years experience working as an ambulatory clinic nurse for the St. Regis Mohawk Health Services. Working as a nurse is where she first became interested in holistic health. She said that she would see people who were on many medications that just seemed to mask their symptoms and not really address their problems. After taking several courses, she learned that for many years people have been using natural herbal remedies that have worked and continue to work today.

Ingle is currently certified in: Iridology, the art of analyzing the iris of the eye to determine what it reflects about the health of an individual; Body Systems Analysis, a series of 50 questions about health and lifestyle that can help gage which gland, organ, or systems in the body are being effected; Nutrition Counseling, helping to identify foods that provide necessary nutrients for the body; and Foot Reflexology, based on reflexes in the feet that correspond to every gland, organ, and body part and can help promote relaxation and release tension, improve circulation and helps the body to normalize itself naturally.

Ingle is also an herbal specialist and an independent distributor of Nature’s Sunshine herbal products, which are all natural and have no adverse side effects like many prescription medications, which may be taken for the same reasons. Herbal medicines can also be taken in addition to most prescription medications as long as they are taken at least two hours apart. Deciding to begin an herbal regiment does not mean one has to wait until a problem arises; it is suggested one takes herbal medicine to boost their immune systems in order to ward off ailments, such as the common cold or flu.

Ingle says that she is amazed at the success of holistic healing on her clients. One such testimonial includes a client who was on the heart transplant list. But, thanks to beginning an herbal regiment and being consistent with making healthy lifestyle changes they were able to get off the transplant list and live their life comfortably. The success of holistic healing is so profound that many clients will continuously return.
