A Voice from the Eastern Door

Students receive academic help from Homework Club

Have you or your child ever needed extra homework help? Someone to ask questions to or maybe just needed to use a computer? Then you will be happy to know that the J.O.M. Program offers a Homework Club at the Akwesasne Boys and Girls Club on Mondays thru Thursdays 7:00 pm to 9:00pm following the normal Akwesasne Boys and Girls Club after school program.

Homework Club is available for both members of the Boys and Girls Club and any other students who may need academic help from the surrounding school districts. The club began in September and it provides a variety of services for students at all levels from high school up until college.

“The best thing about Homework Club is just having the option to come,” said Joe Phillips, J.O.M. Homework Club Supervisor. “Sometimes, students just need quiet time or academic help that they can’t get at home.”

Homework Club can help students with their homework or on other special projects like college application letters. The Akwesasne Boys and Girls Club building provides a safe classroom setting with quiet workspaces, Internet computers, printers, tutors, and academic help.

“I like that we get to chill and do homework and it’s not like a normal study hall where we can’t talk,” said Cheyenne Jocko during Homework Club last Thursday.

Homework Club provides academic help for students as well as accepts the help of anyone interested in becoming a tutor from the community or one of the surrounding colleges.
