A Voice from the Eastern Door
Mohawk Printing & Signs proudly opened their doors for business at the Kanienkehaka Plaza on Route 37 hoping to fill a big need in Akwesasne for a business that provides quality signs, promotional items and other customized work.
“We’re trying to basically be able to do anything a business needs from business cards to signs, any kind of apparel, uniforms, and promotional products,” said Mike Loran who co-owns Mohawk Printing & Signs with Phil Preston.
“We do pretty much everything on site,” Loran said. “I think that’s a key point.”
The business has a small retail area inside where customers can browse through an array of already made t-shirts with locally drawn designs on them. In the backroom, equipment and supplies make up the work area where the orders are filled.
From jerseys to signs, pens to bags, Mohawk Printing & Signs has endless opportunities for business owners, event organizers or team coaches. They have a website where customers can browse through thousands of available items that can be ordered and customized at fair prices.
“Mostly what we do is custom printing,” Preston said. “Almost everything is done here and customers can see the equipment is here.”
Both Preston and Loran have many years of experience in the custom printing business. Loran worked in Rochester for many years in the business and Preston ran a custom t-shirt company in Akwesasne for the past several years.
“We decided to partner up and we put our talents and energy together,” Preston said.
One valuable and unique service they’ll provide to customers is the maintenance and repair of signs. Along with selling custom signs for businesses, Loran and Preston can also travel around the community cleaning signs, replacing lightbulbs and providing general maintenance. They’re planning to purchase a bucket truck that will help them with that aspect of their business.
“We just want people to think of us first and give us a chance,” Preston said. “With us working together we’ve been able to stick to our turnaround times of 5-10 days (for customized orders).”
On Jan. 29th, Mohawk Printing & Signs will hold their official grand opening for all community members to stop by and see what they have to offer. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. free pork sandwiches will be provided, made by Big E. There will also be t-shirt giveaways and CKON will be broadcasting live.
Beginning on Jan. 29th, the business will begin having regular business hours Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 5 p.m., and weekends by appointment. Visit http://www.mohawkprintingandsigns.com for more information or email [email protected]. They can also be reached by telephone at 518-358-3333.
