Mary (Kahontineh) Swamp

Mary (Kahontineh) Swamp, 64, of Ganienkeh Territory, Altona, New York passed away at her home, Sunday, December 27, 2009 under the care of Hospice of the North Country. She was born on August 19, 1945 in Cornwall Island, Ontario the daughter of Lawrence and Mary Cole Jacobs.

Mary graduated from St. Lawrence College in Cornwall as a Certified Welder. She also was a Certified Massage Therapist and Reiki Therapist. She was an organic food enthusiast and enjoyed shopping, exercising and socializing. Mary lived at the Ganienkeh Territory for the past 25 years, where she was the manager of Ganienkeh Territorial Bingo.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, two brothers; John and Joseph Cole, and two sisters; Ann Nettie Lazore and Catherine Cole.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years Raymond Swamp of Ganienkeh, two sons; Donald Ray Swamp of Akwesasne and Chadwick Swamp of Ganienkeh, two daughters; Wanita Swamp of Akwesasne and Jeannie Swamp of Ganienkeh, 9 grandchildren; Danine, Iohrahteka, Coyote, Jiggs, Corbin, Strawberry, Raven, Tiohnekote and Jemma. A brother, Thomas Jacobs and his wife Judith of Schomberg, ON, two sisters; Christina Jacobs and Debbera (Ronnie) Thompson all of Akwesasne.

Visitation was held December 29, 2009 until burial on Wednesday December 30, 2009 in the Ganienkeh Cemetery on the Ganienkeh Territory. She will be sadly missed by many.

Arrangements were entrusted to Brown Funeral Home, 3123 Miner Farm Road, Altona, NY.
