LOWELL E. POTTER

BOMBAY - Mr. Lowell E. Potter, 78, of 239 County Route 9, passed away Thursday morning, December 17, 2009 at Massena Memorial Hospital, where he had been admitted earlier in the day.

Lowell was born May 1, 1931 in Bombay, the son of Ernest A. and Florence McQuinn Potter. He graduated from Bombay High School in 1950. On October 7, 1961, he married Janet J. McCleave at the First Baptist Church, Massena, with Rev. Douglas H. Densmore, officiating.

He owned and operated a dairy farm for many years retiring from farming in 1981. After his retirement, he worked for P&C Foods and the St. Lawrence Center Arena. He was an active member of the Bombay United Methodist Church, where he was a former trustee and a member of the United Methodist Men’s Fellowship. He was also a member of the Grange. Lowell was also a volunteer for the Fort Covington Adult Center, where he visited shut-ins. He enjoyed fishing, antique cars and tractors and was an avid Yankees fan.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Janet; 3 children, Warren A. and Caroline Potter, Sanfordville; James E. and Amy Potter, Homer; Jenifer and Shannon Locklear, Antioch, IL; by 8 grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Lowell was predeceased by a sister, Norma P. Bergeron on February 11, 2000.

Friends called at the Donaldson Funeral Home, where funeral services were held at 4:00 PM with Rev. Donald Alexander, pastor of the Bombay United Methodist Church, officiating. Spring burial will be in Hillside Rest Cemetery, Bombay.
