A Voice from the Eastern Door
The new Katmandew’s restaurant opened its doors on Nov. 21 and has a lot to offer Akwesasne. The homestyle eatery is located in Rooseveltown across from the Akwesasne Boys and Girls Club.
The idea for the restaurant came from owner, Sonia Wade-Mitchell, and her love for singing karaoke and her desire for a place to hold “jam” sessions and open mic nights. In addition to Karaoke, Katmandew’s features home-style cooking. All meals are made from scratch and taken from a collection of family recipes. The chefs, Pam Ojida and Sean Mitchell, say they’re making meals that they themselves have made at home many times.
“The food is excellent,” said Louise McDonald, who had dinner with her daughters Tsiotenhariio and Tsiehente Herne. “I had the prime rib special and it was iohwekon (tastes good)!”
Katmandew’s is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Breakfast is served all day, the salad buffet is offered from 11:30 a.m.- 8 p.m., and they also have daily specials and made-to-order homemade pies.
The space is a perfect venue for parties with a performance space and bar. Call today to book your party 518-358-9506 or 358-3135.
