Winners of science fair announced

The 17th Annual Ahkwesahsne Mohawk Science Fair was held at the Tsi Snaihne Recreation Centre on Monday, November 23, 2008. Over 150 students from the St. Regis Mohawk School, the Ahkwesahsne Mohawk School, and Kana:takon School entered 133 projects into the fair. Judges from Clarkson University, Agriculture Canada, Cornwall Collegiate Vocational School, the Seaway International Bridge Corporation, Kodak, the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe, the Ahkwesahsne Mohawk Board of Education, and numerous Mohawk Council of Akwesasne programs and departments volunteered their time to act as judges.

Students will be traveling to Albuquerque, NM in March to compete in the American Indian Science and Engineering Society’s National Science Fair.

The Committee members of Lynn McCarthy, Tami Kroon, Debbie Terrance, Iris Caldwell, Rhonda Lafrance, Ashley Levac, Lisa Francis-Benedict, and Barry Montour worked diligently to ensure that the fair was a success. A big niawen:kowa goes out to the Tsi Snaihne Recreation Centre Committee members Lorraine and Dan Bero, and Mae Green for hosting the Science Fair and preparing a great meal for the judges.
