Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation, in partnership with Corus Entertainment, today announced Friday, April 16, 2010 as the official date for the Fourth Annual Corus Caring Hearts Radiothon.
Born from a desire to raise funds for the Our Hospital Our Future Campaign, the first Corus Caring Hearts Radiothon raised over $150,000 in 2006. Since that time the annual community event has raised over $250,000 to help provide our healthcare specialists with vitally needed equipment. The provincial government provides for healthcare’s operational needs, but raising funds for new equipment has historically been the responsibility of communities. Each year our community rallies to equip their hospital with the most modern technology and Corus proudly provides the mechanism for that support. Last year alone, the Radiothon raised more than $102,000 and met the need for 16 new hospital beds.
Broadcasting live from Cornwall Square on AM 1220, Rock 101.9 and Variety 104.5 the 13 hour event fills the airwaves with stories, challenges, interviews, and exciting up to the minute tallies on dollars raised by the community. “This is the community’s event and we are happy to provide a venue for them to come together to support their hospital.” said, Scott Armstrong, General Manager – Corus Entertainment.
Hospital CEO Jeanette Despatie and Foundation Chair Roy Perkins were on hand to thank both Corus and the community for their unwavering support. Roy Perkins threw out this challenge to the community. “It is five months until the 2010 Radiothon. I encourage individuals and groups to consider holding some type of fundraising activity between now and April 16th . Proceeds from these fundraisers could take us over the top on the day of the Radiothon. Working together to raise money for life saving equipment right here at home is a cause that is well worth the investment.”
