A Voice from the Eastern Door
Rosemary Katsition hawe (Cook) Marmon, age 73, died September 28, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse, NY after a lengthy illness. She was an active member of the Kateri Prayer Circle of the National Shrine of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha. She participated as a Mohawk elder with the correctional ministries with Tom Shakokwenionkwas Porter in providing Traditional Ceremony culture and Language to native inmates. She is predeceased by her mother Mary Anne Cook, her father Richard Monroe and step father Alexander Cook, by one brother Alfred Peters and one nephew Petey Cook and one chosen sister Gloria Marquis. She is survived by her husband Gene Marmon, daughter, Darlene Ohsontiio Cook, a granddaughter, Alexandra Sandi Cook and great granddaughter Karwiiostha Charlotte Rose Dupree, by 4 sisters Ruth (WM) Rogers of Syracuse, Agnes Lyons of Solvay, NY, Sarah (Patrick) Hassenplug of Liverpool, NY, Harriet (Peter) Lauzon of Solvay, NY and one brother Peter (Jane) Cook of Fort Covington, NY.
She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews and also two chosen daughters. Services will be held Friday at 9:00 am at St. Lucy’s Church. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave. Burial will be at Port Leyden Cemetery in Port Leyden, NY.
