A Voice from the Eastern Door
Cornwall, Ont. – The Cornwall Community Police Service is requesting the assistance of the public in providing a safe environment for participants in the Parade of Nations as well as the spectators viewing the parade. The parade will leave St. Lawrence College and travel west on Montreal Road and Water Street to the Civic Complex parking lot.
Montreal Road and Water Street will closed to traffic for the duration of the parade which starts at 2 p.m. on the 26th of September, 2009. The closure of the street is necessary in order to ensure the safety of adults and children attending and leaving the parade and for the safety of the participants as well. These detours will reduce the interaction between vehicles and pedestrians as well as parade participants, thereby reducing the risk of injuries to all involved in this event.
No parking signs will be put in place along the parade route on Saturday morning. Police will use discretion throughout the morning and afternoon along business areas, however a zero tolerance tag and tow policy will be strictly enforced along the parade route.
This is done to provide the performers the entire width of the street in order that they may give you an unrestricted demonstration. This also provides better viewing for all spectators with no vehicles obstructing the line of sight and most importantly, ensuring that no children will be darting out from between parked cars.
We thank you for your co-operation in making the event a safe and enjoyable parade for all involved.
