A Voice from the Eastern Door
The 50th anniversary of Alcoa’s East Plant will be recognized with a community open house on Saturday, September 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. During that time, employees, retirees, family members, friends and community members are invited to tour the East Plant.
The temporarily curtailed status of the East Plant provides a unique opportunity for people to tour the facilities. For safety reasons, visitors are generally not allowed into the plant during normal operating conditions.
A designated tour route will be set up for visitors to follow and there will be historical displays along the walkway. Light refreshments will be served and the Alcoa East Safety Department will have a table displaying the types of safety gear employees wear while working. For this special event, the safety clothing requirements will be suspended.
No photographs or videotaping inside the plant will be allowed and everyone must stay within the confines of the designated tour path on that day.
Alcoa East is the former Reynolds Metals facility, located off Route 37, near the U.S. Customs facility and Seaway International Bridge.
