A Voice from the Eastern Door

Niawen

Since the beginning of this whole gun issue, we, as a community, have never seen so much unity. This unity from the people has not only saved the future generations from racial discrimination, threats and harassment on our own land, but has also shown the entities that we are still a strong group. The sacred fire and the ability to come together as one mind can defeat many issues in a peaceful manner. To accomplish all this strength it takes a lot of giving, love, and understanding from everyone .

The buying of wood by community members, supplying gas from their own pockets, and all the volunteer time put in to keep the fire burning is outstanding. Also, the community put so much volunteer time on the river, transporting people and maintained their own equipment.

The donations from all our brothers and sisters from Akwesasne and elsewhere is gratefully appreciated. Food donations is such a savior. We, as a community, have not only spent thousands of our own money on food but have also put many, many hours to prepare the meals, and not to mention all the work in the cleanup after every meal.

We, as the Akwesasne Peoples Fire, would like to send a ‘big NIA:WENKOWA’ to all who have helped up to this point in time, and would only hope that the support will always be there. The fight of the no-guns issue is not over and we will continue fighting until a long term solution is reached.

All the people who have supported us will be seeded forever in our hearts.
