A Voice from the Eastern Door
Racing fanatics in Akwesasne had a brush with fame Thursday evening when Tony Stewart, a legend in the NASCAR racing world, paid a visit to the Mohawk International Raceway in Frogtown.
Stewart holds a NASCAR record for staying with the same team, sponsor and crew chief when he drove the #20 Home Depot racecar for ten years. He currently drives the #14 Office Depot/Old Spice/Burger King/Chevrolet Impala SS car.
Stewart was in the MIR’s pit throughout Thursday’s racing event – the Lucas Oil100-lapper – in which Jessica Zemken had been invited to race in. Gossip websites have linked the pair as a couple, and Stewart worked on her car Thursday night while also chatting with other pit crews and helping with other cars as well.
Fans approached Stewart throughout the evening requesting autographs and photos and he obliged but it was clear he was in town for racing business, not fanfare. Still, his visit was the best surprise fans at MIR could have asked for.
