A Voice from the Eastern Door
Children all over Akwesasne had a number of places to choose from this summer for a day camp experience. Many in Tsi Snaihne (Snye) chose to attend the Akwesasne Child & Family Services and Snye Recreation’s 4-week summer program, which comes to an end this Friday.
Every day for the past four weeks nearly 50 children attended the program. From Monday to Thursday the children aged 6-13 participated in games and crafts and every Friday they took a field trip. The group went to Ausable Chasm, Onchiota, Meacham Lake, and this Friday for their last day they’ll be going go-carting in Alexandria Bay.
“It’s been quite busy, quite fun, quite tiring,” said ACFS worker Wanda Thompson. “The kids must have liked it, we kept having the same number back every day.”
Every week the kids had a theme to follow and this week was carnival week. On Wednesday they invited their parents in for a BBQ and outdoor carnival day with bounce houses, carnival games and snow cones.
