A Voice from the Eastern Door

Thank you

Thank you,

An amazing event happened this past Saturday at Cedar View Golf course, it was HUNTER’S HOPE CYSTIC FIBROSIS ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT.  A great turnout with a total of 106 players.  It was a ten o’clock shot gun start, as they all lined up, Hunter Ray Cooke blew the fog horn.

Hunter is a seven year old resident of Akwesasne who has been struggling with Cystic Fibrosis for all of his life.  He recently had a double lung transplant in March and another surgery in June for a blocked artery.  He is currently back home in Akwesasne with his mother Marla Martin and father Chris Jacobs.

Hunter had an amazing time riding around on the golf cart and getting pictures with everyone that had attended. In the beginning it was a little cloudy and the course was wet, but the clouds broke and gave us a great day.  Out on the course was a grill with hot dogs donated by our favorite company GLAZIER! Family donated burgers, buns and water, along with sponsor Pepsi who donated soda.

When the 18 holes were played everyone headed into the club house. While the DJ played and everyone had enjoyed their dinner, prizes were given out.  Our first place team was Raun Moon, Ray Jock, Zach Bogosian and Rob Henhawk, golfing an outstanding 59.  This team brought tears to everyone’s eyes when they donated the prize money back to Hunter.  Also Zach Bogosian a local Professional NHL Player for the Atlanta Thrashers brought a jersey for Hunter and autographed it.

Thank you guys, you’ve made Hunter a very happy boy.  Hunter’s Golf Tournament went a little differently, instead of 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th place winners it was 1st, 6th, 12th and last place. With this announcement the crowd roared.  Our top name for 6th place was Jim Sunday and team, 12th place was Buck White’s team who also generously donated some of his money back and Last place to our first time golfers Mallory Cree and team. Our Men’s longest drive was won by Moochie Bero and Men’s closest to the pin by JR Cook. Women’s closest to the pin and longest drive both went to Breanne Herne, good job.

There were many great prizes donated, every player walked away with one along with t-shirts donated by CKON and our very own IGA. The 50/50 raffle was drawn by Hunter right before he left. Our lucky winner was Dave Mainville. We are also very greatful to Aaron Terrance who had donated his equipment for this event and to Johnny Adams who donated his time to play the music.  Later in the evening we had a surprise, our favorite band THE CROSSWINDS showed and played the jiggin tunes and everyone danced into the night.  This was Hunter’s Hope’s first Golf Tournament and surely will not be the last.  Please keep an eye for us next year if you want some fun in the sun.
