A Voice from the Eastern Door

Hazel P. Hall

Hazel P. Hall, age 75, of Syracuse, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was the daughter of Margaret and Thomas Hall, a native of Akwesasne, and came to Syracuse with her family in 1950. Hazel had worked at James Square Nursing Home as a nurse’s aide for more than 15 years before retiring in 1995. She enjoyed crafts, quilt making, bingo and was the matriarch of her family. She was everyone’s aunt, and her entire life was about the ones she loved. When she was able, her many efforts were about bringing us together and reminding us about the importance of family. Hazel was predeceased by her husband, Douglas J. “Poncho” Griffin in 2006. Survivors include two sons, Clifton J. (Donna) Griffin and Donald J. Griffin, both of Syracuse; three sisters, Irene Hall and Sharon Hall, both of Syracuse, and Lucille Mitchell of Quebec, Canada; four brothers, Peter Hall of Phoenix, NY, Harry Hall of Cortland, Gabriel Hall of Ottawa, Canada, and Randy Hall of Nedrow; two grandchildren, Thomas R. and Courtney L. Griffin; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday at Carter Funeral Home and in St. Lucy’s Church. Burial was in Onondaga Valley Cemetery.

Contributions may be made in Hazel’s honor to Kateri Tekakwitha Committee, St. Lucy’s Church.

Arrangements by Carter Funeral Home, Inc., 1604 Grant Blvd., Syracuse, NY.
