Nancy A. Comins

Mrs. Nancy A. Comins, age 88, of 971 State Route 37, Hogansburg, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 afternoon at Tsiionkwanonso:te Chronic Care Facility, Cornwall Island, where she had been a resident for the past 2 weeks.

She was born December 29, 1920 in Hogansburg, the daughter of Frank and Hattie Mitchell Swamp. She attended schools on the Reservation and in Bombay. She first married Louis Martin, who predeceased her on September 7, 1959. She then married Harry G. Comins on August 29, 1969 at the St. Regis Catholic Church. Mr. Comins predeceased her on November 10, 1973.

She was a homemaker and once worked at E and W Moccasin Factory in Brushton for a few years. She was a member of the Andrew W. Cook American Legion Post 1479 Auxiliary, St. Regis Mohawk Senior Citizens, and the Rosarian Society for many years. She also was a communicant of St. Regis Catholic Chuch. She enjoyed sewing, reading, watching baseball and wrestling on television, and visiting with her many friends. She was a master quilter and also enjoyed knitting for her grandchildren, playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, and her flower gardens.

She is survived by her 8 children and their spouses, Joyce and Ed Benedict, Cold Brook, NY; Roy and Naomi Martin, Ohsweken, Ontario; Elizabeth and Gary Perkins, Akwesasne; Van and Debbie Martin, Massena; Diane and Ronald Garrow, Akwesasne; Jean and Henry Laffin, Akwesasne; Richard and Cindy Martin, Rochester; Robert and Sylvia Martin, Ohsweken, Ontario; by 3 step children and their spouses, Don and Delinda Comins, Akwesasne; Sandra Boyer, Cornwall and

Harry George; by 25 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren; a sister, Grace Chubb, Akwesasne; a sister-in-law, Rita Swamp, Akwesasne; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by a step daughter, Brenda S. Comins on November 10, 1973, 3 brothers, Mitchell Swamp at age 18, Abraham Swamp on February 27, 1995, and Robert F. Swamp on March 29, 2004.

Friends called at her home until a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at the St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. George H. Belgarde, SJ, officiating. Burial was in the Kateri Cemetery.

Arrangements were with the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena.
