Athlete Students of the Month, Hall of Fame and Akwesasne Jreck’s Subs

The Hall of Fame Organization at Salmon River Central School has completed their final selections for the athletes for each month. The coaches choose a player from their sport and explains why they chose them. Each month, a male and a female is picked and photographed. They pose with one member of the HOF committee and hold their certificates.

The certificates were given by the Ha11 of Fame organization, along with a certificate worth $25.00 to Akwesasne Jreck’s Subs. Once framed, these photos will be displayed on the wall in the main lobby in the high school.

The first athlete honored has been nominated by her coach Dan Mainville in the sport of Track and Field. Kaitlyn Patenaude is the May recipient. “Kaitlyn has shown incredible work ethic through the month of May, she has been an outspoken team leader as captain of the team this month. In the meet against Clifton Fine, she tied her personal best in the high jump clearing 4’8”. Kaitlyn has also taken two young high jumpers •under her wing and tutored them in proper technique and warm up routine.

The male athlete chosen for May is Alex Otis in his sport of Varsity Baseball. His coach Ben Barkley nominated him. “I would like to nominate Alex Otis for athlete of the month of May. Alex is a senior catcher on the baseball team. He recently received first team All Northern honors. For the month of May, Alex batted .581 collecting 18 hits and driving in 12 rbi. He is also the captain and heart of the team,” said Ben.

Rachel Benedict is the female student athlete for June in the sport of Track and Field. Her coach Dan Mainville selected her, this is how he spoke of her.

“Rachel qualified for the New York State Track and Field Championships in Shot Pot. At the sectional meet, Rachel came from being seeded 13th and finished 4th with a personal best toss of 28’8”. In the State Championships meet, Rachel again bettered her personal best, but this time by over a foot, throwing 29’9”. In an event that is won/lost by inches to better a personal best by over a foot, just isn’t heard of.

The male athlete for the month of June is Ty Thompson. He has been a major contributor to the SRC Boys Lacrosse team this year, his senior year. His coach Dave White nominated him.

This year’s athletes have been fine choices. In September, we will begin another year of monthly selections as the coaches nominate their athletes.
