Grace Day celebrates 100th birthday with family and friends

At 100 years of age, Grace Day is a picture of health. Surrounded by her family and friends, Grace celebrated the milestone birthday Saturday at the St. Regis Mohawk Senior’s Center Tsi Tetewatatkens.

A traditional meal was served and guests spent the afternoon reminiscing about the past one hundred years and learning things about Grace they never knew before.

Grace was born Grace LaFrance and she married Jacob Day and had two children, Jeff and Jann. Both were by her side for the party.

Guest traveled to Akwesasne from as far as Tennessee to help Grace celebrate her birthday. The only two surviving siblings of the late Jacob Day (children of Christina Burns) attended the event to wish the wife of their late brother a happy birthday. John Burns flew from Tennessee and Annie (Burns) Dyer came from Syracuse.

In the past 100 years, Grace has made many friends who are also like family. She is called Tota Grace by many.

Distant relatives enjoyed learning about the connections they have to one another through Grace that they did not know existed, and a memory board was made featuring photographs of Grace and her family from years back.

All of Grace’s family and friends wish her many more happy birthdays to come !
