Terrance claims opening night Mod win at MIR; Jackson, Allen, Mere also score wins

Carey Terrance of Akwesasne scored the opening night DIRTcar 358 Modified victory at Mohawk International Raceway (MIR) in front of a packed gandstand. Veteran drivers dominated the action on Adams Marina night as Louie “Action” Jackson of Akwesasne rolled into victory lane in the Pro Stocks, Mike Allen of Norwood scored in the Street Stocks and Scott Mere of Parishville won the Bandits, as fans and race teams alike celebrated the grand opening of the new facility that has been completely rebuilt over the winter months.

Perry Francis of Akwesasne set the early pace in the Frenchies Chevrolet American Revolution Series Memorial Cup feature event for the 358 Modifieds. The first caution waved on lap four for debris and Terrance powered past Francis for the lead when the race resumed. Behind Terrance, Francis and Todd Stewart put on a hotly contested battle for the runner-up spot.

Terrance was able to keep a comfortable lead but a couple of cautions slowed the pace. On lap 7, Ryan Jacobs’ front end broke and he stopped on the speedway, and on lap 21 as Simon Perrault slammed into the frontstretch wall. On lap 24, Stewart got the opening he was looking for as he dove to the inside of Francis to grab the runner-up spot, while Francis found himself immediately being challenged by John Lazore for the third position.

The final caution waved on lap 32 as Mark Smoke of Akwesasne broke and could not clear the speedway, leading to a three lap dash for the checkered flag. Terrance cruised on for the win on opening night in front of a hometown crowd, while Stewart, making his return to MIR as a regular, came home for an impressive second place finish. Perry Francis held off the challenges of Lazore for the third spot. Roy Tarbell, after starting 16th on the field, was able to charge to a fifth place finish.

By grabbing the win in the first round of the Frenchies Chevrolet American Revolution Series, Carey Terrance sets himself up as a prime contender to win the title and bonus money for this three-race mini-series. The Frenchies Chevrolet American Revolution series will resume on Friday, July 3rd and the final event will be run on Friday, September 4th.

In the fan-favorite Pro Stock division, it was a battle of old rivals, as Louie “Action” Jackson and Dave “the Bulldog” Bissonnette of Apple Hill, ONT dueled throughout the 20-lap event. Bissonnette led from the drop of the green flag, but Jackson powered to the inside on lap 5 to take the lead. While Jackson would lead the final 15 laps of the event, Bissonnette never let up the pressure and pulled alongside Jackson several times but could not keep the momentum to complete the pass. Jackson was thrilled to win on Adams Marina night, as they are one of his primary sponsors.

Mike Allen and Jay Montour resumed their rivalry in MIR’s Street Stock division, with Allen emerging the victor in the feature, while Scott Mere powered by Nolan Swamp to grab the opening night checkers in the Bandit division.

MIR rolls back into action next Friday night, June 12, as Jacobs’ Tobacco Company and Jacobs’ Excavation presents a full program of racing for the 358 Modifieds, Pro Stocks, Street Stocks and Bandits. The first green flag flies at 7:45 PM. As a special thank you to our Canadian fans, Canadian money will be accepted at par for grandstand admission, with pricing set at just $10 for adults and $7 for Students and Seniors. Kids 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult.
