Mohawk Council of Akwesasne Notice Victoria (Viki) Keays Irving QUEBEC / AKWESASNE LIAISON OFFICER

(Akwesasne - April 30, 2009) This is to introduce Victoria Keays Irving — she is known as Viki - who has been appointed as Quebec / Akwesasne Liaison Officer with the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne since September 2008. The role of this position is to cover the services that were previously provided to the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne and to the community by the late Francoys Boyer-

Prior to becoming the Quebec / Akwesasne Liaison Officer, Viki Irving was employed with the Mohawk Council as a registered practical nurse at the lakhihsotha nursing home in Snye.

Viki living’s Liaison duties include assisting community members with problems such as: translating French language documents; contacting various government officials and/or departments in Quebec to get information or resolve issues; helping with applications and paperwork regarding pensions, vehicle licensing, insurance and certificates (e.g. Birth / Marriage / Death). Also, as a Commissioner of Oaths she can sign and witness legal documents.

Viki Irving’s office is located on the 2nd floor of the MCA’s Administration II Building (government blidg.) in Kanatakon and she can be contacted by phone at 613-575-2348 extension 2232; by fax at 613-575-2884; or by e-mail at [email protected]. Viki is usually available from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

In order to provide better services to the community, arrangements have been made to have Viki Irving work for 1/2 day each week at the Iohahi:io Adult Education Centre on Thursday afternoons from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. While at Iohahi;io, Viki will be available to assist Snye District residents as well as students attending education and training programs at Iohahi:io.
