Mr. Leonard M. Bintz, 77, of 14 Danforth Place, Massena, died Saturday morning April 25, 2009 at the St. Regis Nursing Home. He had been a patient since January, 2005.
Leonard was born December 27, 1931, in Hogansburg, the son of the late Maurice and Mabel (Gray) Bintz. He graduated from Massena High School in 1950 and was an alumni of Albany State. He married Dale C. Jacobs, February 27, 1960 at St. Regis Catholic Church by Rev. Michael Jacobs S.J. He worked as a computer operator at Alcoa, retiring in 1993 after 40 years of service and also was a substitute teacher at Salmon River and Mohawk Schools.
Leonard was a member of the Alcoa 25 year club. He was piano instructor, an organist and choir director at St. Patrick’s Church in Hogansburg. He also played the organ at many other churches. He was an avid gardner and had a great appreciation for the arts, very passionate about his music and classic music and the old movies.
He is survived by his wife Dale, by 4 daughters and two sons-in-law, Jacqueline Bintz Clapper, Syracuse; Cecily and Lee Cook, Plymouth, Michigan; Heidi and Kevin Post, Durham, NC; Kristin Bintz, Massena; by 1 son and daughter-in-law, Peter J. and Jennifer Bintz, Missoula, Montana; by 7 grandchildren: Forrest Heaney, Anthony Artini, Hayley and David Cook, Grace Bintz, Isabella Post and Abigail Johnson. Leonard is also survived by his mother-in-law Beatrice Jacobs and in-laws Louis and Bettie Jacobs, Dolores Thompson, Darlene and Peter Sunday, L. David Jacobs, Dan and Debra Jacobs, Denise Jacobs, by cousins, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends called at the Donaldson Funeral Home until a Mass of Christian Burial held on Monday, April 27, 2009 at St. Patrick’s Church, Hogansburg with Rev. Donald Manfred officiating. Burial followed in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hogansburg.
