Bryan Barney was a devoted, highly successful rifle athlete at Salmon River. He continued his riflery through four years of college achieving outstanding collegiate and national recognition. Since college he has been a coach at Salmon River, Crown Point Central School and South Lewis Central School.

While at Salmon River, Bryan trained and competed in air rifle and smallbore (standing, kneeling, prone). He won many honors including winning the State Championship in 1994 and representing NYS in the National Junior Olympic Shooting Championship at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, Colorado in March 1995. Each summer he won medals, including gold and silver, at the NYS Empire State Games. He set the Empire State Games team record for both air rifle and 3-Position rifle in 1994. During his four years of college he competed in the NCAA National Rifle Championship in both 1997 and 1999 and also competed for a position on the U.S. Olympic Team.

Bryan continues to be involved in athletics as a coach. While he worked on his Masters Degree at St. Lawrence University and substitute taught at Salmon, he volunteered his time and effort as assistant coach of Salmon’s rifle team for two years and of the lacrosse team in 2001. He coached girls soccer, boys soccer and golf while teaching at Crown Point Central School. He is currently coaching rifle at South Lewis Central School.

Bryan was fortunate to have a rewarding sports start at Salmon River. He continued to excel in college and is now giving back to athletics by helping students achieve athletic success. He was nominated by his father Fay E. Barney.
