A Voice from the Eastern Door
Letter to the community,
To family, friends and the community who may not know that Charlene Cole has recently been diagnosed with Multiple myeloma, a cancer of the plasma cells in bone marrow. Plasma cells help the body’s immune system fight disease. When plasma cells grow out of control, an excess of plasma cells can form a tumor in the bone marrow called a myeloma. Many tumors are called Multiple myeloma. As the cancer cells grow in the bone marrow, they cause pain and destruction of the bones. If the bones in the spine are affected it can put pressure on the nerves, resulting in numbness or paralysis. Charlene started chemotherapy in Burlington and now has treatments in Malone. Because she has been diagnosed as the youngest person in this region to have myeloma, she is being considered to be a stem cell candidate. If selected to receive this treatment Charlene will be back in Burlington by the end of the month.
We are asking for donations for Charlene and have several fundraisers planned. There is a Lasagna Luncheon on Friday, April 17th at Brasshorse Restaurant starting at 11 a.m., a dance scheduled for Saturday, April 18th also at Brasshorse, featuring the Little River Mohawks, starting at 8 p.m. and a Trivia Night on Friday, April 24th at Cedar View Golf Course. It starts at 7:30 p.m. and there will be prizes, raffles and snack. Registration is required for this fundraiser by calling Steve or Jeanine Lazore 575-2980 or Lorraine Bero 575-2694.
Thank you, Charlene Cole Committee
