A Voice from the Eastern Door
Drugs & Alcohol
When it comes to drugs and alcohol, parents are the biggest influence on teens. Teens that are close to their parents are less likely to participate in risky behavior, but all teens are at risk for drugs and alcohol. To help reduce their risk, become more involved in your teens life. The more involved you are, the more your teen will feel valued and be likely to respond to what you have to say about drugs.
Parents can help prevent their child from using alcohol by being fully involved in their life. Ask them about their day and how school is going. Talk to them about peer pressure. Let them know that most teens don’t drink on a regular basis and don’t think that drinking alcohol will make them cool. Help them understand that their real friends won’t pressure them to choose to drink alcohol and their real friends will respect their decision not to use it. Help your teen by helping them understand fully the consequences of drinking alcohol at such a young age.
