To the Editor,

In “Cigarette Prices Jump” Indian Time failed to report the real story. Is the price increase going into our Tribal General Fund to pay for, oh say, the Clinic budget short fall, or into the deep pockets of the already fat store owners association? Where is the money going and how is it being spent?

Is scares me every time the Store Owners Association in Akwesasne meets with tribal officials, the non-store owning Tribal membership seem to lose a little more of their sovereignty. Talk about the tail wagging the dog. The popular joke around Akwesasne is that, its not the Tribal Compliance Department, its the Tribal Compliant Department, roll over fido and say ah. And Indian Time, get back out there and get us the real story.
