A Voice from the Eastern Door
As part of their March Break activities, the St. Regis Recreation and Akwesasne Child and Family Services invited teens to come in Tuesday for a cooking class.
Carolyn Francis and Leona Barnes taught the participants the basics of cooking, from what knives to use to how to do things in a sanitary way. The group learned to make biscuits and macaroni soup.
“We’re just going over a lot of basics that they’ll need to know when they go out into the world,” Francis said.
The participants learned the importance of measuring and following recipes and they were even briefed on kitchen safety, like what to do when a grease fire erupts.
After the meal was prepared, the participants were able to experience the feeling of accomplishment as their meal was served to the children participating in the March Break Week activities.
